Acres of private forestlands converted to another use
Preventing forestland conversion in the Puget Sound region is a key strategy for Puget Sound recovery. Well-managed forestlands can provide fish and wildlife habitat, reduced storm and flood damage, air purification, and outdoor recreation opportunities while providing timber and wood products. Forestlands, especially those held by private landowners in small parcels, are under immense pressure from developers. Growth in the Puget Sound region is directly related to the decrease in forested lands and the conversion of these lands is a primary pressure affecting the health of streams.
